If your flying or driving in from out of town, and wondering when you are going to get some practice time in before King of the Groms, here’s the Open Skate Schedule.
Tuesday, Feb 14th – 9am-12p, 12-3p
Wednesday, Feb 15th- 9am-12p, 12-3p
Thursday, Feb 16th- 12-3p, 3-6p, 6-9p
*Vert Jam starts at 5pm * No classes
Friday, Feb 17th- 12-3p, 3-6p, 6-9p
* Mini-Ramp qualifier starts at 5pm * No classes
Saturday, Feb 18th- Contest all day, doors open at 9am. Public Open Skate will be normal hours: 12-3p, 3-6p, 6-9p
Sunday, Feb 19th- (closed for public open skate) Contest all day, doors open at 9am
This year, Presidents’ Day is Monday the 20th, and Kids That Rip! will be have special Open Gym/Skate hours from 9a-12p and 12-3p.
If you skate at KTR, you have most definitely met Kam Krigel. He is usually shredding the park with camera in hand. Over the past years, Kam has not only become a good skater but an awesome videographer/editor. Here’s a little video on him made by KTR’s coach- Aaron Goure. Augie and Armando Lerma, two avid skaters at KTR, are a part of a traveling Smithsonian Exhibition called:” Ramp It Up”. The exhibition highlights skateboarding in Native American culture. The Lerma brothers are of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians. The exhibition opens April 28th at the San Diego Museum of Man and will run through September 9, 2012.

If you haven’t heard, Kids That Rip! is your last chance to make it to King of the Groms Championships- the final qualifying stop will be held at KTR February 16-19th, 2012. So start practicing at our Open Skates and sign up for more lessons to dial those tricks in!
King of the Groms is a 12 and under, nationally recognized, skateboard competition with Bowl, Street, and Mini-Ramp divisions. Registration and full details can be found on the contest’s official website, kingofthegroms.net.
